Kitty Ernst is the author of this article about the Pilot of CNEP in the Frontier Nursing Service Quarterly Bulletin, Volume 65, Number 1, Summer 1989. This was the first distance learning program for nurses and the internet was in its infancy. Kitty’s vision was to build the program for exponential growth to turn the tide to have more nurse-midwives in the USA than obstetricians. Many opposed her idea and some even sought to undermine her efforts. She kept on and continued to rally support from those who could see the merits of this bold idea.
